PURPOSE: A device for inputting characters of a mobile communication terminal is provided to display a Korean alphabet keyboard, a number keyboard, an English keyboard, and a special character keyboard on a screen, and to input characters by using directional buttons and a selection button, thereby easily inputting characters as seeing the screen. CONSTITUTION: A keypad(111) consists of an up-button(211), a right button(212), a left button(213), a down-button(214), a selection button(221), a tab button(231), a keyboard toggle button(241), a power button(251), a delete button(261), and a final consonant shift button(271). A screen display(131) consists of a character input menu(281) and a character input window(283). An input controller moves a keyboard selection cursor in a pressing direction when the directional buttons(211-214) are pressed, displays a selected character or a number on the screen display(131) if the selection button(221) is pressed, deletes the selected character or the number if the delete button(261) is selected, sets a next item when the tab button(231) is pressed, and recognizes at least one consonant that is previously selected as an initial sound of a next letter if the final consonant shift button(271) is pressed, then combines with the next letter. If the power button(251) is pressed, the input controller turns on or off power.
