PURPOSE: A statistical method for learning translation relationships among phrases and a device thereof are provided to learn phrase translation relationships by receiving parallel-arranged language data having the learning phrase read from a source language. CONSTITUTION: Access to an arranged pair of multi-word units is received(511). One of the multi-word units is a source unit of the source language and another is a target unit of a target language. At least one candidate phrase is generated from the target unit(512). A score for each candidate phrase including an internal component based on association among the internal words of a source language phrase and the candidate phrase, and the association among the external words of the source language phrase and the candidate phrase is calculated(526). The translation relationship between the source language phrase and the candidate phrase is recognized based on the score.
