PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image switching apparatus capable of performing output switching and composite processing by using an image generated through special effect processing requiring a processing time equivalent to one field or over, outputting a plurality of images by using a reentry function, and preventing a discontinuous image change on the output images. SOLUTION: In the case of generating a plurality of output images by using the reentry function between image composite switching sections 2a and 2b, the image composite switching sections 2a and 2b in use are assigned to each output image as a group, and a group storage section 5a stores group information. Further, signal delay sections 7a, 7b delay an output timing of a control signal used to instruct the operation of the image composite switching sections 2a and 2b belonging to the same group by the same time. Thus, the delay control applied to the image composite switching sections 2a and 2b in response to an operation delay of special effect processing sections 3a, 3b in use is performed for each group in a unified way so as to avoid a delay amount change from being affected onto the other groups.
