PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for neutron shielding and for retaining a subcriticality which is well suitable for the moderation and absorption of neutrons as well as has a low density and a method for preparing the material. SOLUTION: The material contains a matrix composed mainly of a vinyl ester resin, at least a kind of polyamide and an inorganic filler which can moderate and absorb neutrons. The polyamide is designated as aliphatic polyamide. The inorganic filler is a material which contains one or more kinds of hydrogenated inorganic compounds and one or more kinds of inorganic boron compounds. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
