PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil level detector for an internal combustion engine, capable of improving reliability of oil level detection by properly detecting an oil level and surely preventing misdetection due to road surface conditions. SOLUTION: The oil level detector 1 for the internal combustion engine 3 for detecting the oil level OL of engine oil EO stored in an oil pan 6 of the internal combustion engine 3 mounted in a car 4, comprises an oil level sensor 7 installed on the oil pan 6 and detecting the oil level OL in the oil pan 6, a road surface condition determining means 2 determining whether a road surface on which the car 4 travels or stops is in a predetermined road surface condition to influence the oil level OL in the oil pan 6, or not, and a detection forbidding means 2 forbidding the oil level detection by the oil level sensor 7 when this road surface condition determining means determines that the car 4 is in the predetermined road surface condition.
