PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow liquid level detection even when a liquid level position is low, that is, when the liquid level position is a level substantially equal to a container bottom. SOLUTION: An ultrasonic sensor 2 is attached to the vicinity of a bottom face 31 inside a fuel tank 3 to emit an ultrasonic wave toward the bottom face 31, and a reflecting face 32 for reflecting the ultrasonic wave emitted from the ultrasonic sensor 2 toward a liquid face 41, and a reference reflecting face 33 for reflecting the ultrasonic wave emitted from the ultrasonic sensor 2 toward the sensor 2 are formed in the bottom face 31. The lowest detectable liquid level height h1 gets thereby lower than the lowest detectable liquid level height h2 in a conventional fuel liquid level detector, that is, the lowest detectable liquid level height h1 is brought into a position near to the bottom face 31 of the fuel tank 3, the liquid level 41 position is made thereby to be detected accurately over a range from a full tank position to the level substantially the same as the the bottom face 31, and this fuel liquid level detector 1 of the present invention is realized to detect the liquid level 41 position accurately all the time irrespective of a temperature and pressure of fuel 4.
