PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a terpolymer comprising a maleic anhydride/N-vinylpyrrolidone/an alkyl vinyl ether that has good productivity and workability and is usable for a variety of usages. SOLUTION: The terpolymer is manufactured by using an alkyl vinyl ether, an N-vinyl compound represented by formula (1) and maleic anhydride as monomer components and its composition satisfies alkyl vinyl ether/N-vinyl compound/maleic anhydride = 5-45/5-45/40-60 (the total of them is 100 mole%) in a mole ratio.
