PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a burner having flame retaining property and assuring combustion with less influences of boiled-over stock and a cooking unit using the same. SOLUTION: The burner comprises a burner body 1, a burner port plate 7, and a boil-over guide 17. The burner port plate 7 is inclined at its inside face to form a combustion surface 12 and the boil-over guide 17 has an outer end 19 at which part of the combustion surface 12 of the burner port plate 7 is blocked and to which a inner periphery portion 16 of the burner port plate 7 is fixed, and the boil-over guide 17 and the burner port plate 7 are mounted in a mixture chamber 5 of the burner body 1 with air-tightness. So, the residence of combustion premixture is generated with the operation of the boil-over guide 17, the flame retaining property is improved, the entry of the boiled-over stock is suppressed by using the boil-over guide 17 for blocking the part of the combustion surface 12, and less influences are given to the combustion.
