The transformer control procedure includes soft switching to control the switches, at an instant when an operating parameter of the switch is naturally annulled. This operating parameter is selected from either the strength of the current passing through the switch, or the voltage across the terminals of the switch to be changed. This minimizes losses occurring during the switching process. The procedure provides control of a set (2) of magnetically independent transformers (Ti), the set including first and second electric circuits (10,12) connected between the primary and secondary windings of the transformers. Connection is made via controllable switches (Pi, Pi, Si, Si) which are able to connect the windings either in parallel or in series. The procedure includes a stage of executing a process of soft switching to control the switches, at an instant when an operating parameter of the switch is naturally annulled. This operating parameter is selected from either the strength of the current passing through the switch, or the voltage across the terminals of the switch to be changed.
