A system for assisting a user in extracting information from a document 2 has a pen arranged to make pen strokes on a representation of the document 2, a recording system arranged to record the position of the pen strokes and a processor arranged to interpret the pen strokes as identifying selected parts of the content on the document 2 and to produce a reference document relating to the document set, the content of the reference document being dependent on the selected content. Selected text may be converted to a different font, may be used to produce a document summary, or may select definitions or translations of terms. |
