The oil distributor shaft (5) is arranged inside the gear shaft (1) and with a separate hydraulic oil duct (6) for each gear stage opening into a distributor channel (14) which leads to a connecting element (9) which forms transition member for the hydraulic oil to an oil-filled hose (3). The hose is mounted on the gear shaft around and underneath the shift ring (2) which has lift-up engagement elements (10) which in the event of oil pressure hose being pressurized by hydraulic oil are moved from a relaxed position into an outwardly directed position to positively interact with gear wheel (4). The gear housing (7) has a fixedly connected oil distributor shaft (5). Independent claim describes method for operating transmission for motor vehicle where engagement elements mounted on a shift ring interact with gear wheel to drive same through elastically oil-filled hose which is expanded when pressurized by hydraulic oil.
