The plate cylinder has a cylinder body having an outer surface for one image to be printed. The inner surface (56) of a shell (16) is set to a cylinder body end (22,14) such that the shell has a gap (30) for holding a printing plate (40). The shell, axially movable on the cylinder body end, has an outer surface for other image to be printed and the inner surface with a projection (52) extending into the gap. An Independent claim is also included for an offset lithographic printing press.
