A machine-room-less elevator is described, in which the motor is a winch positioned upward in the elevator shaft, with the electric motor turned downward. In this way, a reduction of the elevator shaft's overhead space extension is obtained, although respecting all safety measures related to elevator's use and maintenance. <IMAGE>
