The invention pertains to a method for bio-remediation of an environment that is contaminated with a halogen-containing compound comprising adding to the environment an amount of a composition comprising a) 10 to 90 wt.% of a C8-C22 fatty acid, a salt or a C1-C8 ester thereof, or a mixture thereof, and b) 10 to 90 wt.% of a C1-C8 ester of lactic acid, and reductively dehalogenating the halogen-containing compound in the environment to innocuous compounds.
