The cylindrical object e.g. a drinks can or a glass (16) may be held with its axis vertical. The holder (10) surrounds the bottom end of the object and has a base (12) with a flat underside. An upper portion (24) has an outward-extending flange interlocking with an inward extending flange on the baseplate. It contains a ring made of flexible material (14) which may grip the bottom of the can or glass.
