PURPOSE: A nonaqueous electrolyte solution and a lithium battery employing the electrolyte solution are provided, to stabilize the active surface of a lithium anode. CONSTITUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte solution comprises an organic solvent; a halogenated organometallic salt represented by the formula 1; and optionally a lithium salt, wherein M is Si, Sn, Pb or Ge; R1 is F, Cl, Br or I; R2 is a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group of C1-C20 or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group; R3 is F, Cl, Br, I, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group of C1-C20 or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group; and R4 is F, Cl, Br, I, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group of C1-C20 or a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group. Preferably the halogenated organometallic salt is selected from the group consisting of triphenylsilyl chloride, triphenyltin chloride, triphenyllead chloride, triphenylgermanium chloride, triphenylsilyl bromide, triphenylsilyl fluoride, trimethylsilyl chloride, trimethyltin chloride, trimethyllead chloride, trimethylgermanium chloride, dimethyltin dichloride, ti-tert-butyltin dichloride and their mixtures. The lithium battery comprises a lithium anode; a cathode containing a lithium inserting or binding active material; a separator placed between the anode and the cathode; and the nonaqueous electrolyte solution. |
