PURPOSE: A data processing apparatus and method, a program and a data recording medium are provided to allow a main data provider to control an operation of reproducing main data. CONSTITUTION: A data processing apparatus includes a coupling unit and an output unit. The coupling unit couples supplementary information, which indicates information restricting an operation of reproducing main data including at least one of video data and audio data, to the main data. The output unit outputs the main data coupled to the supplementary information. The data processing apparatus further includes a recognition unit. The recognition unit recognizes whether the supplementary information indicates the information restricting the operation of reproducing the main data. When the supplementary information indicates the information restricting the operation of reproducing the main data, the coupling unit couples the supplementary information to the main data.
