The invention relates to a washing method and apparatus using carbon dioxide, comprising a storage tank, a washing compartment, washing fluid filtering means, washing fluid choking means, washing fluid evaporation means, a distillation column, washing fluid compression means, a pump and washing fluid condensation means. The washing method comprises several stages. One of said stages is the correction of the quality of the washing fluid, wherein distillation is carried out and the saturated vapor/total mixture ratio of the washing fluid is increased or lowered. If it is necessary to increase the saturated vapor/total mixture ratio of the washing fluid, the fluid in liquid state is passed through choking means. As the washing fluid passes through said choking means, the pressure and temperature of the washing fluid drop. The washing fluid is then passed through evaporation means, wherein most of the washing fluid changes into gaseous state. In a third stage, the fluid passes through a distillation column in which the fraction of the washing fluid that was still in liquid state is evaporated. The fluid is then passed through condensation means, wherein part of the washing fluid changes into liquid state and is finally moved into a distilled fluid storage tank, the washing fluid having then a higher saturated vapor/total mixture ratio. If it is necessary to lower the saturated vapor/total mixture ratio of the washing fluid, part of the saturated vapor of the system is condensed. The system has an automatic electronic control that actuates the different elements of the system in order to carry out different operations.
