LUBRICATING OIL

A lubricating oil composition which comprises (A) a base oil for a lubricating oil comprising a mineral oil, a synthetic oil or a mixture thereof, (B) a nitrogen-containing compound having at least one alkyl group or alkenyl group and having a number average molecular weight of 900 or more and/or a derivative thereof in an amount of 0.01 to 0.20 mass % as a nitrogen content on the basis of the total amount of the composition, and (C) a viscosity index improver having a weight average molecular weight of 40,000 or less, and which has a viscosity index of 160 or higher and a kinematic viscosity at 40°C of 20 to 30 mm<2>/s. The lubricating oil composition has a low viscosity and also is capable of exhibiting good anti-wear characteristics both in an early stage of use and after the use for a long period, and thus can be advantageously used for an automatic transmission or a continuously variable transmission.
