According to the present invention there is provided a gas cleaning device (14) comprising a gas inlet (6), a gas 10 outlet (8) and a path of fluid communication (10) between the gas inlet (6) and gas outlet (8), an ionising means (16) in the path of fluid communication (10) for ionising particulates in a gas stream and an electronically conductive body (26) at least partly about the ionising means (16) whereby ionised particulates are biased towards the electronically conductive body (26) in which the ionising means (16) extends within the electrically conductive body (26) for less than half the length of the electrically conductive body (26).
