A double fold bookbinding method and apparatus, where cost can be reduced by the use of plain paper and wrinkles are not produced. An adhesive agent (84) is intermittently applied to plural positions in the vicinity of a rear end edge (82) opposite a folding edge (18) of newly supplied paper (10) that is to be piled on a stack (28). After that the paper (10) newly supplied is piled on the stack (28) and pressed to the stack by a roller (38), and this results that the paper (10) newly supplied is bonded to the stack (28) by the adhesive agent (84) applied to the uppermost paper on the stack (28). Applying the adhesive agent (84) to the paper (10) newly supplied before the paper is piled on the stack (28) enables the use of plain paper, and showy wrinkles are not produced because the adhesive agent (84) is applied to a small area of the paper (10).
