The device has an electronic module (1) connected by a cable (3) to a weighing plate (2). Before an item is placed in the trolley its bar code is scanned, and when it is placed in the trolley the weight is detected. When an item is removed from the trolley its weight is detected and the bar code is scanned again. The electronic module stores the bar code and weight of items in the trolley.
