The invention concerns the use of a water-soluble copolymer with low ion content as agent for assisting grinding of mineral materials in aqueous suspension allowing to obtain aqueous suspensions of refined mineral materials, having dry matter concentration which may be high, low and time-stable Brookfield<TM> viscosity, exhibiting a pigment surface whereof the ion load, measured by ion titration, is low. The invention also concerns the resulting aqueous suspensions of mineral materials and their uses in paper, paint and plastic materials.
