<p>A filter cartridge employs radially inwardly and outwardly displaced portions (22, 24) of a peripheral roll seam (16) on the cartridge (10) as components of a cartridge compatibility matrix. The resulting convoluted roll seam (16) provides a coded structure to mate with compatibly configured filter bases (40, 80). The outward or inward profile of the convoluted roll seam (16) may be used to block reception of incompatible cartridges (10). The number, configuration and location of inwardly and outwardly displaced portions (22, 24) of the roll seam (16) may be varied to provide a variety of unique compatibility matrices.</p> |
