In a welding circuit utilizing periodic current pulses to stabilize the arc, an A.C. fed saturable transformer is used to generate the pulses. A welding transformer secondary winding 1 is connected through a choke 2 to the welding electrodes 3, 4 across which is connected the primary and secondary windings 6A, 6B of a saturable impulse transformer 6, the former through resistor 8 and choke 7, and the latter through capacitor 9 and resistor 11. Due to transformer 6 being saturated during most of the cycle an impulse is induced in the secondary winding at each current zero which charges capacitor 9 through elements 1, 2, 11 until the voltage exceeds the discharge value of a voltage dependent device 10, such as a discharge tube, which fires and discharges the capacitor through the arc. The shunting effect of primary 6A is reduced by choke 7 and resistor 8. |
