PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light-emitting device extended in life and enhanced in reliability by preventing the deposition of organic substances on the laser diode chip end face. SOLUTION: In this light-emitting device which comprises a laser diode chip, a laser diode chip housing, and a photocatalyst disposed in the housing, the light emitted by the laser diode chip is utilized for the activation of the photocatalyst so that organic substances in the light-emitting device are decomposed for the prevention of their deposition on the chip end face.
