摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high contrast ratio by realizing uniform liquid crystal alignment in a liquid crystal display element using a monostable liquid crystal material. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal substance exhibiting a phase transition sequence of an isotropic liquid phase, a cholesteric phase, and a chiral smectic C phase from a high temperature side (a transition temperature between the chiral smectic C phase and the cholesteric phase is 68°C) is injected into an empty panel constructed by rubbing alignment layers 11, 12 and superposing two sheets of substrates so as to make rubbing directions be parallel to each other. To realize uniform liquid crystal alignment in the chiral smectic C phase, the injected liquid crystal substance is subjected to alignment treatment of elevating temperature from 30°C with 1°C/minute temperature gradient, lowering temperature with 1°C/minute temperature gradient after reaching 73°C, maintaining the substance at 69°C for five minutes in the temperature lowering process and applying 10V DC to the injected liquid crystal substance within 73-63°C temperature range.
