PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming method and apparatus which improve image quality in one-pass simultaneous transfer system and substantially prevent the temperature of an image carrier from becoming high even in a transfer/fixing system. SOLUTION: A developed image formed by an image forming unit having a photoreceptor 1 is transferred to a first transfer belt 10, and the developed image transferred to the belt 10 is further transferred to a second transfer belt 100. Subsequently, another developed image formed using the image forming unit again is transferred to the first transfer belt 10. Paper P is held in a transfer area between the first transfer belt 10 and the second transfer belt 100, and the developed images held on the first transfer belt 10 and the second transfer belt 100 are transferred and temporarily fixed under heat ranging from the glass transition temperature of each toner to be used to the respective softening temperature and under a pressure of 10 to 100N.cm<SP>2</SP>.
