PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle side body structure of an automobile that can assure a wider area that can be crushed and deformed on a vehicle front portion and that can obtain a sufficient impact absorption effect inside a limited vehicle body space. SOLUTION: In this vehicle side body structure of an automobile that includes a side sill 10 with a side sill inner panel 11 and a side sill outer panel 16, that extends, having substantially the same closed section, to the longitudinal direction of the vehicle along the side portion of a vehicle floor and that has a front end portion facing to a front tire T, and a front pillar 20 with a front pillar inner 21 and a front pillar outer panel 26, that is connected to the front end portion of the side sill 10 and extends toward upward from the front end portion, joint flanges 11c, 16c and 26d are formed by bending to the vehicle width direction to connect the front end of the side sill 10 and a lower front end of the front pillar 20 to each other.
