PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new titanyl phthalocyanine for stably forming a photosensitive layer having improved sensitivity characteristics and for manufacturing a painting liquid having improved storage stability, and to provide an electrophotographic photoreceptor having improved sensitivity characteristics using the titanyl phthalocyanine. SOLUTION: The titanyl phthalocyanine has features (a), (b). In a CuKαcharacteristic X-ray diffraction spectrum (a), the maximum peak is at a Bragg angle 2θ±0.2°= 27.2°, there is no peak at 7.4°, and there are no peaks having a temperature change from 50°C to 400°C at those other than the peaks accompanying the vaporization of adsorption water in a differential scanning calorimetric analysis. A crystal that is dipped into an organic solvent for seven days and then is recovered has the maximum peak at least at a Bragg angle 2θ±0.2°= 27.2°and does not have any peaks at 7.4°in the CuKαcharacteristic X-ray diffraction spectrum (b).
