PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printing system which prevents damage to the quality of printed matter, and which can identify a printer applying printing to the printed matter, in accordance with the printed matter. SOLUTION: Printing data are sent to the printers from a host part so that instructions about the printing can be given; the printing based on the instructions is performed by the respective printers; and the printed matter 51 from each of the printers is ejected to a specific place. Though the printed matter 51 from the various printers is ejected to the specific place, the printer, whereby the printing is applied to the printed matter 51, can be identified by looking the printed matter 51, because mark dots are imparted to different places on respective pieces of the printed matter 51 by the printers. A tonal value of the mark dot is determined in consideration of a tonal value of a peripheral dot. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
