PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect ejection of liquid from each ejection opening of a liquid ejection head with high accuracy by positioning the liquid ejection head and an electrode with high accuracy. SOLUTION: In the liquid ejection detector for detecting liquid being ejected from a liquid ejection head having a plurality of ejection openings, certain ejection opening of the liquid ejection head 6 is selected and driven to eject liquid. A circuit is closed by forming a liquid column 8 between the head 6 and an electrode 9 arranged at a specified interval from the ejection opening such that the liquid ejected from the ejection opening driven to eject liquid touches the liquid column before leaving the ejection opening. Based on a current flowing through the circuit, a position adjusting means adjusts the position for checking the ejection state of the head 6, using a function for checking the ejection state of liquid from that ejection opening, in response to detection of ejection driving and ejection state while moving the head 6 and the electrode 9 relatively.
