PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a phosphorus-containing compound expressed by formula (I), and to provide a manufacturing method therefor. SOLUTION: The phosphorus-containing compound is obtained by firstly subjecting an organic cyclic phosphorus compound and an aromatic aldehyde compound to an addition reaction, then subjecting the resulting compound to a condensation reaction with an aromatic compound having an active hydrogen. The phosphorus-containing compound is used as a curing agent of resins, especially when the compound is used as a curing agent in a flame retardant epoxy resin composition, since flame retardance and heat resistance of the resin composition can be simultaneously improved, the compound is useful as a curing agent in a resin composition for a printed circuit board and a multilayer printed circuit board of an electronic and electric product.
