PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a process for joining a ceramic material to stainless steel which prevents gas leakage and yields sufficiently firm joining and sealing between the ceramic material and the stainless steel material, even after alternately and repetitively subjecting them to ordinary and elevated temperatures. SOLUTION: In the process for joining the ceramic material to Al-containing stainless steel, the surface of the stainless steel to which the ceramic material is to be joined is coated with a metal, and the metal-coated surface is brazed to the ceramic material with a brazing metal or a ceramic powder-containing brazing metal.
