PURPOSE: A receiver area number omission preventing method of a phone set having an SMS function is provided to prevent SMS transmission failure by giving a user a warning to input an omitted area code as occurred. CONSTITUTION: When a sender desires to send an SMS, he/she inputs a phone number of a receiver(310). A controller determines whether an area code is included in the inputted phone number(312). If there is no area code in the inputted phone number, the controller displays an area code omission warning message on a display unit(314). The controller asks whether a set area code is to be used as an area code of the receiver(S316). If the sender answers 'yes', the controller reads the set area code stored in a memory unit and automatically inputs the area code as an area code of the receiver(318).
