PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sound source survey method and a device capable of accurately surveying a true sound source distinctively from a false sound source by determining efficiently the optimum arrangement of a plurality of sound pressure detection elements for detecting the sound pressure propagated from the sound source. SOLUTION: The sound pressure of a sound propagated from the sound source 12 existing in a space is detected by a plurality of sound pressure detection elements 3 arranged dispersedly on the surface 2 of a two-dimensional plane or a three-dimensional curved face, and a sound source sound pressure distribution 14 of a virtual sound source estimated relative to the sound source 12 is determined based on a sound pressure signal detected by each sound pressure detection elements 3, and the optimum arrangement of the sound pressure detection elements 3 on the surface 2 is determined from the sound source sound pressure distribution based on a performance function comprising a function between a sound pressure differenceξbetween the true sound source 12 and the false sound source 13 and a sound pressure gradientϕat the true sound source 12.
