PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording device in which cost reduction is achieved by reducing the complexity of a selecting method for process operations at a recording device, and lessening switches. SOLUTION: A means for detecting opening/closure of a cover, and a means for holding each of head cartridges 1A-1D and detecting a position of a carriage 2 which reciprocates along a guide shaft 3 are set. A user manually moves a recording head to a recording head position.
