PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing method ensuring high quality image recording even if recording element in unrecordable state exists in a recording head. SOLUTION: When multilevel image data is subjected to pseudo-halftoning and outputted while being converted into a density pattern consisting of binary image data of a plurality of pixels in order to perform recording using a recording head, state of a plurality of recording elements in the recording head being used for recording remarked pixels of the input multilevel image data is checked. According to the check results, the multilevel image data of the remarked pixels is quantized to limit the quantization number and an error generated through quantization is diffused to following pixels. The quantization data is converted into a density pattern according to the check results and binary image data of the density pattern is outputted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
