PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tool fixing device for a machine tool, which can prevent degradation in a tool fixing force thereof during machining. SOLUTION: According to the structure of the tool fixing device, a tool T is fixed into a tool mounting hole 8 by tight-fitting. An inner peripheral surface of the tool mounting hole 8 tapers from an opening to a bottom of the hole. A portion of the tool T, which is inserted into the tool mounting hole 8, has an outer peripheral surface which tapers toward a spindle 2 at the same tapering angle as that of the inner peripheral surface of the tool mounting hole 8. Then an incompressible fluid filling chamber 12 is defined by the inner peripheral surface of the tool mounting hole 8 and the outer peripheral surface of the tool T, and a fluid channel 13 is formed in the tool holder 5, in order to introduce an incompressible fluid in the incompressible fluid filling chamber 12. When the tool T is inserted into the tool mounting hole 8 or taken out of the same, the incompressible fluid fed into the incompressible fluid filling chamber 12 functions to elastically deform a peripheral portion of the tool mounting hole 8 in the tool holder 5, and to radially expand the peripheral portion.
