摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a nitrogen oxide decomposing element which can treat nitrogen oxide at a comparatively lower temperature without using materials which may affect the environment and the human body as an oxidizing agent and a catalyst and a nitrogen oxide decomposing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The nitrogen oxide decomposing element 1 has a conductive solid electrolyte film 2 through which hydrogen ions pass selectively, a first electrode layer 3 comprising an electron-conductive substrate and a catalyst for promoting anodic oxidation, a second electrode layer 4 comprising an electron-conductive substrate and a catalyst promoting cathodic reduction, and a platinum group element catalyst 6 which is arranged adjacently to the second electrode layer 4 and supported on a porous metal oxide 5. In the nitrogen oxide decomposing apparatus, a nitrogen oxide sensor 14 is installed in the vicinity of the catalyst 6 supported on the porous metal oxide 5, and electric energy can be used efficiently to reduce the consumption of power by controlling the current flowing between the first and second electrode layers 3 and 4 and an energization time with a power source/control device 15 corresponding to the concentration of nitrogen oxide detected with the sensor 14. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
