PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a negative electrode material with which charge and discharge efficiency can be improved, and its manufacturing method, and a battery. SOLUTION: A positive electrode 32 and a negative electrode 34 are laminated via a separator 35. The negative electrode 34 contains the negative electrode material which is composed of a particle containing at least one kind of group 14 elements excepting carbon. The negative electrode material is obtained by adding a compound expressed as C<SB>m</SB>H<SB>2m+2-n</SB>F<SB>n</SB>(in the formula, m expresses an integer of 6-10, and n expresses an integer of 0-2m+2.) or C<SB>p</SB>H<SB>2p-q</SB>F<SB>q</SB>(in the formula, p expresses an integer of 6-10, and q expresses an integer of 0-2p.) at a rate of 10 mass % or less against the whole raw material, and by carrying out mechanical alloying. By this, as an oxygen concentration in the negative electrode material decreases to 4 mass % or less, and an increase in irreversible capacity in initial stage charge and discharge is suppressed.
