LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY AND METHOD FOR DRIVING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method for driving the liquid crystal display are provided to realize an sRGB mode in the liquid crystal display and improve display quality of the liquid crystal display. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes a liquid crystal panel(10), a gate driver(20), a data driver(30), a timing controller(40), a voltage generator(50), a lamp(60) and an inverter(70). The timing controller receives RGB video data(RGB), synchronous signals(Hsync,Vsync) and clock signals(DE,MCLK), carries out luminance control and gamma correction for the RGB video data to obtain corrected RGB data(R'G'B'), and outputs the corrected RGB data to the data driver. The timing controller generates signals(HCLK,STH,LOAD,Gate clock,STV,OE) for controlling the operation of the data driver to output the signals to the gate and data drivers. The timing controller includes a control signal processing block(41), a luminance controller(42) for controlling luminance of video data, and a gamma converter(43) for converting gamma characteristic of the RGB video data to conform with gamma 2.2 curve.
