摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device capable of improving illumination efficiency by enhancing reflection efficiency on the side surface on the other side as a reflection part of a rod-like lens with a simple structure. <P>SOLUTION: This surface light source device is provided with a light guide member 11 formed of a flat translucent material, and having an upper surface formed as a reflecting surface; the rod-like lens 12 disposed oppositely to a side surface of the rod-like lens; and a light source 14 disposed oppositely to an end face of the rod-like lens 12. The surface light source device 10 is so structured that the rod-like lens 12 is equipped, on a side surface on the side opposite to one side surface facing to the light guide member, with a light diffusion part 12a for longitudinally diffusing and reflecting light; and the light entering an end face of the rod-like lens from the light source, longitudinally diffused and reflected by the light diffusion part of the rod-like lens and traveling in the light guide member from the one side surface is reflected by the reflecting surface of the light guide member and emitted from the lower surface thereof to illuminate an illumination object 16.
