METHOD FOR REFINING SELENIUM AND APPARATUS FOR THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cost effectively refining crude selenium recovered from the electrolytic slime generated in copper smelting and an apparatus for the same.

SOLUTION: The major impurity elements in the form of particles included in the crude selenium can be separated by melting the crude selenium at 230 to 450°C and filtering the melt by exerting a pressure above 0.1 MPa thereto. The filtration material suitable for the method is selected from a wire net, kieselgur, glass fibers, ceramics fibers and carbon fibers. The crude selenium can be thereby efficiently refined to selenium of a high grade at a low cost.
