PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method for a phase difference film making it possible to form a liquid crystal display device which has small variance of a phase difference and an optical axis in a surface of the phase difference film formed of polycarbonate, has wide visual field ranges in front and oblique view directions, and has superior display quality of contrast etc. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method for the phase difference film includes the processes of forming a cast film of polycarbonate by a solution casting filming method and then stretching the unstretched case film at right angles (laterally) to the casting direction (longitudinally). In the manufacturing method for the phase difference film, the unstretched film or a longitudinally uniaxially stretched film which is≤5μm in the variation of film thickness in a surface and contains a 1 to 5 wt.% solvent (residual solvent amount).
