PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and reliably perform high speed reproduction and high speed search in a device which can record new data continuously without erasing already recorded data when empty capacity becomes scarce in the midst of recording data on a disk. SOLUTION: Recording of new data and rerecording of reproduced data are performed successively in the prescribed small data unit on a disk recording medium by making a recording rate smaller than the recording rate of data already recorded. Further, reproducing/recording is controlled so that rerecorded data and newly recorded data are continued time sequentially on the disk recording medium. In a disk recording and playback device in which when empty capacity becomes scarce in the midst of recording data on the disk recording medium, new data can be recorded continuously without erasing already recorded data, and rerecorded data and newly recorded data are recorded temporally continuously without break.
