PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing light irradiation device for optical orientation for efficiently irradiating a wide area with polarizing light at a large quenching ratio of a desired wavelength of an ultraviolet region without using a large-sized and expensive optical component and a wavelength selection filter. SOLUTION: The polarizing light irradiating device for optical orientation 30 comprises a rod-like dielectric excimer discharge lamp 31 for emitting light of a substantially single wavelength and a wire grid polarizer 100, and irradiates a liquid crystal orientation film with polarizing light. Thereby the polarizing light irradiation device for efficiently irradiating the wide area with the polarizing light at the large quenching ratio without using a large-sized and expensive optical component and a wavelength selection filter can be obtained.
