PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oriented film scarcely causing a defective display when used in a liquid crystal display element, the liquid crystal display element having the oriented film and a new diamine to be a raw material for the oriented film. SOLUTION: The diamine is represented by formula (2) (wherein, X is a 1-6C straight-chain or branched alkylene; n is an integer of 1-10; R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>2</SB>are each independently hydrogen or methyl; Y is hydrogen, methyl or a C<SB>m</SB>F<SB>2m+1</SB>; and m is an integer of 1-10). The diamine is reacted with a tetracarboxylic dianhydride or a dicarboxylic acid to prepare a polyamic acid, a polyimide, a polyamide or a polyamideimide. The oriented film is produced from a varnish containing the polyamic acid, polyimide, polyamide or polyamideimide. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
