PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform power transmission to a steering shaft in a steering mechanism from a motor driven in accordance with an operation of a steering member quietly with high transmission efficiency. SOLUTION: A ball screw shaft 4 is installed close to a rack shaft 1 inside a rack housing H<SB>1</SB>and this shaft 4 is connected to an output shaft 32 of a motor 3 placed on the outside of the rack housing H<SB>1</SB>via a flexible shaft 6 in a power transmittable manner. A ball nut 5 screwed to the screw shaft 4 is communicated to the rack shaft 1 via a communication arm 50, rotation of the motor 3 is converted to movement of the ball nut 5 along the screw shaft 4, this movement is transferred to the rack shaft 1 by the arm 50 to slidably move the rack shaft 1 in the shaft length direction.
