PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge producing a good image by employing an ink jet recording ink containing dye and a specific ink holder in order to satisfy both ink performance stability and ink supply stability, and to provide an ink cartridge set and an ink jet recording method employing it.

SOLUTION: The ink cartridge receiving an ink holder containing ink comprises the ink holder of thermally fusible polyurethane foam principally comprising isocyanate and polyol, and ink jet recording ink containing black dye having specific characteristics or structure.
